How do you think you’re going to do this?
This travel ‘want’ started a very long time ago, but it was in about 2018 that I really got to thinking. Remember, I’m good for over thinking sometimes. Well, usually always. I started thinking, could I really put a plan in place that could make this happen. I knew, as I still do now, that travel is expensive and the tools required can put a really big dent in anything you may want, so it needs to be a plan that is affordable.
In the world of this type of travel, dropping a 100 grand is nothing. A simple van type home starts at 130k and that’s being a minimalist. But what if I bought a truck, a guy can always use a truck, and then put a home on top. That was a reasonable plan but keep it simple. A person doesn’t need all the bells and whistles to travel, it just needs to be built for the job and comfortable. The tech guy I am, and the people I know made this part rather simple, and in the end, very affordable.
Next was the home part. It doesn’t need to be big, it just needs to have the creature comforts we’ve come to expect. With some research I found the model best suited for the job. I need large holding tanks so I can go off-grid. I need power to have lights and run the pumps on-board. I need a solid power storage solution along with charging capabilities. Bizarrely, a search on-line found a used unit with exactly what I wanted and best of all, it had next to no previous use. Now, the story of the purchase could be a tale in itself but I’ll keep that one to myself.
If you’re interested in all the details of the home on wheels, drop a comment and I will be happy to go in depth on what it is and all the improvements made to make this rig a very comfortable place to call home for an extended trip.
Until next time…
